Skagway residents can look at the Skagway Borough Assembly’s decision to grant a noise permit to SECON as the price of improvement.
The Assembly voted unanimously to grant SECOND a noise permit at its May 21 meeting. The permit makes it legal for SECOND workers to work during the early morning hours as they try and complete the State Street Rehabilitation Project. With the permit, crews will be able to operate from 4-6 a.m. through October 15.
“I just quickly want to say for everyone affected by this, I know how difficult it has been,” said Assembly person Charity Pomeroy. “I’ve been hearing a few, I hate to use the word complaints, from some local residents about the sound, but it is, of course, something that is going to improve our city and our life and it will be over at some point.”
Assemblyman Jonathan Hillis agreed, saying the extended work hours would enable SECON to work even faster.
“We have a very short window for this work on, so I feel like anything that we can do to help keep it moving is good,” he said.
SECON is rehabilitating streets along State Street. The work is expected to continue into the fall.
