The Skagway Recreation Center will have some new wheels soon.
The Skagway Borough Assembly authorized the purchase of a 15-passenger van for the Recreation Center at its December 18 meeting. The new van, which will not exceed $40,000, will enable the center to transport youths to various events and, when needed, for use for senior citizens.
Currently, the Recreation Center uses the Skagway School District bus to transport individuals for its five weeks of day camps. Rec Center staff, according a memo from the Municipality of Skagway, also uses personal vehicles to run errands.
The purchase of the van will enable the Recreation Center to take children on adventures during its After School program, as well as for transporting students and seniors to and from excursions.
The van purchase will be funded through funds from the Rec Center Kids Program ($15,000), Rec Center Program Funding ($15,000) and the Rec Center FY25 Capital Outlay ($10,000).
