Letter to the Editor: Pedestrians should be treated with respect

On Sunday, Aug. 4, I was enjoying a wonderful walk via the bridge from the ore dock across to the Dyea side. I passed many families on the bridge strolling along, showing their kids all the amazing sights.

On my return across to the Skagway side there was just me and a couple of girls from one of the cruise ships. We were about a third of the way over when we heard an engine noise behind us. An ATV, driven by a couple of young guys, came roaring up and they immediately started shouting at us to move over. Not only were they shouting but also screaming obscenities at us.

I was not aware that motorized vehicles were allowed on the bridge, but even if they are don’t pedestrians have a priority and should be treated with respect.
