Henry: Help for police still ‘down the road’

Skagway Borough Assemblyman Dan Henry tried to be opimistic as possible when he broached the subject of the city’s attempt to hire new law enforcement officers.

“(There’s) nothing more on the hiring of police other than maybe, maybe, maybe – that’s three maybes – on a potential hire) that would be somewhat in-house, but that’s it . It (the possible hire of new officers) is months down the road yet. So still no light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Municipality of Skagway has been working to recruit new officers to help with its current understaffed unity. The lack of available housing has been one of the main obstacles facing municipal officials as they attempt to fill positions.

“That’s something tough that we’re still going to have to deal with,” said Henry.
